Walled Garden
Rail deck park
On the southern edge of a city of Toronto, engulfed by sharp edges of high-rise structures, in between two main transportation arteries (Spadina and Bathurst) lies the walled garden. A public space struggling to keep its neutrality in between the enormous volume of the concrete jungle surrounding it.
The garden is surrounded by a multi-level wall, made through stacked levels of brick arches forming an aqueduct, facilitating movement f people from the “Sky Dome” connecting it to the “Fort York National Park” through a direct pathway alongside the garden. Which gives the garden another layer of utility, controlling the flow of people into it, and acting as a continues bridge at the same time.
This aqueduct surrounding the garden, acts as an intermediate scale element in between the excess of high-rise concrete and steel and the small scale of greenery at the lower level. Shielding the trees and the people from the direct contact with the adjacent high-rise..
